{"id":1063,"date":"2019-07-06T10:11:20","date_gmt":"2019-07-06T10:11:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bcta.group\/attma\/?p=1063"},"modified":"2019-07-08T10:40:38","modified_gmt":"2019-07-08T10:40:38","slug":"new-build-dwellings-up-by-1-per-cent-in-england","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bcta.group\/attma\/2019\/new-build-dwellings-up-by-1-per-cent-in-england\/","title":{"rendered":"New-Build Dwellings up by 1 per cent in England"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Annual New Build Dwellings were up 1 per cent according to\nthe latest statistics from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government\n(MHCLG).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Starts<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Since 2003-04, the number of annual new build dwelling\nstarts increased until reaching a peak in 2007. During the period of 2007 to\n2009 starts then fell rapidly during the downturn but since then figures have\nbeen rising and in the past two years new build starts have averaged around\n160,000 per year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the year ending March 2019, there were 162,000 new build\ndwellings started, which is a 1 per cent increase compared to the year ending\nin March 2018. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Completions<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Completions increased in 2003-04 until reaching a peak of\n176,600 in 2007. Completions then fell gradually during the period of 2008 \u2013\n2010. However, completions have now gradually increased and for the past two\nyears, there have been an average of 165,000 completions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the year ending March 2019, 170,000 new build dwellings\nwere completed, which is an increase of 6 per cent compared to last year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Sub-national trends<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"867\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bcta.group\/attma\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Number-of-Starts-1024x867.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1064\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bcta.group\/attma\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Number-of-Starts-1024x867.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.bcta.group\/attma\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Number-of-Starts-300x254.png 300w, https:\/\/www.bcta.group\/attma\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Number-of-Starts-768x650.png 768w, https:\/\/www.bcta.group\/attma\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Number-of-Starts.png 1337w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption>Image Source: The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government; House building: new build dwellings, England: January to March 2019<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Geographically, there are high rates of new build starts per 1000 dwellings in local authorities. Eastleigh, Harborough and South Derbyshire were highlighted in the highest rates of starts in the past year. Just over half of all authorities throughout England saw an increase in buildings starting. Yet, the highest difference was in London, which saw the greatest increases and decreases start levels. The geographic spread is very mixed throughout England. (See Figure 9 in image above)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs)<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>On a similar note, EPCs were found to be increasing since\nlast year.
