This course combines three essential HETAS modules into one clear pathway. Starting with Core Knowledge on Day 1, candidates then progress through servicing on Day 2 and practical sweeping on Day 3. Delivered at The Building Performance Hub, the course provides a practical route for operatives looking to expand their services, demonstrate competency, and work towards the HETAS Sweep & Service Scheme.<\/p>\n

HETAS Experienced Sweep & Service Course Overview<\/h3>\n

This three\u2011day programme blends theory, practical learning, and safety\u2011critical knowledge to ensure candidates can confidently assess, maintain, and clean solid fuel appliances and associated systems.<\/p>\n

Learners begin by developing a strong understanding of the principles that underpin safe appliance operation, before progressing into service and maintenance activities, and finally completing practical sweeping and re\u2011commissioning tasks.<\/p>\n

Across the course, emphasis is placed on safety, compliance, and best practice, ensuring all activities align with current regulations and industry expectations.<\/p>\n

Day 1 \u2013 Core Knowledge<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Day 1 provides the essential foundation for all solid fuel appliance work.<\/p>\n

The session introduces the regulatory framework, industry guidance, and responsibilities associated with installation, servicing, and operation.<\/p>\n

Learners develop an understanding of fuel types, including natural and manufactured solid fuels, wood logs, pellets, and biomass materials, alongside how these influence appliance performance.<\/p>\n

The course also covers combustion principles and how environmental factors such as moisture content and calorific value impact efficiency. Carbon monoxide awareness is a key focus, including recognising risks and responding to incidents safely.<\/p>\n

Ventilation requirements, chimney function, and the movement of products of combustion are explored to ensure candidates understand how safe operation is maintained within different building conditions.<\/p>\n

Day 2 \u2013 Servicing<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Day 2 focuses on the safe service, maintenance, and fault diagnosis of solid fuel appliances.<\/p>\n

This module focuses on giving operatives the competence to sweep, assess, and re\u2011commission appliances in line with HETAS expectations.<\/p>\n

Practical instruction includes sweeping techniques across different appliance types, sealing methods, and the correct classification and handling of soot. The process of re\u2011commissioning appliances after cleaning and checks is also covered.<\/p>\n

The training incorporates the HETAS Unsafe Situations Procedure (HUSP), ensuring candidates can identify and manage situations where appliances present safety concerns.<\/p>\n

Pre-Requisites &\u00a0<\/strong>Who the HETAS Experienced Sweep & Service Course Is For<\/h4>\n

This course is suited to individuals with relevant industry experience who are looking to expand their service offering or formalise their skills.\u00a0It is particularly relevant for chimney sweeps, stove retailers, heating engineers, maintenance operatives, and professionals responsible for appliance servicing or inspection.\u00a0It is also suitable for those progressing through the HETAS pathway who require a structured route into sweeping and servicing competencies. The following pre-requisites are required:<\/p>\n

  • Day 1 (Core Knowledge): Open to all candidates, including those new to the sector<\/li>\n
  • Day 2 (Servicing): Requires Core Knowledge plus relevant experience or recognised qualification (OFTEC Technician – 101,102 or 105e or Registered Gas Safe Operative – CCN1 & HTR1)<\/li>\n
  • Day 3 (Sweeping): Requires Core Knowledge and either servicing knowledge, installer training, or demonstrable experience (Dry Appliance Installer, Biomass Appliance Installer, Servicing Technician)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Note: If you book for the entire 3 day course, only OFTEC qualification to 101,102 or 105e or being Gas Safe Registered to CCN1 & HTR1 is required at time of booking.<\/em><\/p>\n

    Assessment & Certification<\/strong><\/h4>\n

    Assessment is carried out through a combination of theoretical and practical evaluation across the three days.<\/p>\n

    Successful candidates will receive HETAS Statements of Results for each module completed, demonstrating competence in core knowledge, servicing, and sweeping.<\/p>\n

    This provides a pathway towards joining the HETAS Sweep & Service Scheme or expanding an existing registration scope.<\/p>\n
