This four-day sound insulation testing training course provides a comprehensive introduction to sound insulation testing in residential buildings, aligned with UK Building Regulations. Delivered by The Building Performance Hub, the programme combines expert-led instruction with hands-on experience in a purpose-built sound insulation suite. It is designed for individuals aiming to carry out sound insulation testing professionally and pursue certification through recognised schemes such as SITMA.
Participants receive a CPD Certificate of Attendance upon completion. Those wishing to progress toward certification may sit the SITMA Theory Examination, which is a required step for joining the SITMA certification scheme. You will receive a separate certificate from SITMA once you have passed the exam
Entry Requirements
There are no formal prerequisites, but candidates should be physically able to handle equipment weighing up to 15kg. Due to high noise levels during practical sessions, ear protection rated at 35dB SNR or higher is required. Candidates should bring their own ear defenders. Basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication) is also involved.
Equipment
Candidates are encouraged to bring their own sound insulation testing equipment to allow training to be tailored to their tools. All equipment must be insured, as The Building Performance Hub is not liable for damage or theft.

This four-day course blends theory and hands-on sound insulation testing. The first three days cover measurement techniques and UK regulations, with practical sessions in The Building Performance Hub’s sound suite. On day four, candidates can sit the SITMA Theory Exam (56 questions, 80% pass mark). Exams are optional but automatically scheduled.

Modules
The course modules cover the fundamentals of acoustics and sound insulation, measurement methodology and equipment use, practical testing to apply theoretical knowledge, an overview of relevant regulatory frameworks and sampling requirements, and a detailed introduction to the SITMA Certification Scheme.
