SITMA is pleased to collaborate with The Building Performance Hub to offer both UKAS-accredited and non-UKAS-accredited organisations the opportunity to participate in anonymised inter-laboratory sound insulation testing. Interlab Sound insulation testing is held every year, though UKAS companies generally compare tests every two years.

Inter-laboratory testing involves multiple companies conducting a sound insulation test on the same partition using their own equipment and methodology. This process is a mandatory requirement for ISO 17025 accredited laboratories, but is also open to any company interested in contributing to the study and benchmarking their performance.
The Building Performance Hub operates an ISO 10140-compliant sound insulation suite. A partition will be constructed to facilitate an airborne wall test and impact floor test in accordance with ISO 140-4 standards.
Each testing session must be completed within 90 minutes, including setup, measurement, and takedown, to ensure smooth scheduling for all participants. Brian from Sound Advice Acoustics will be in attendance and will be charging each lab an additional £75+VAT for his time and report analysis.
The Building Performance Hub and Brian will independently produce a final anonymised report, which will be shared only with participating companies. Each tester will be assigned a unique identifier (e.g., Tester A, Tester B) to allow for confidential comparison of results.
The cost to participate in the 2026 sound insulation inter-lab testing is £160 + VAT per company/tester, payable directly to The Building Performance Hub. Please note this fee cannot be charged through your SITMA account.
