Air Tightness Testing Training Level 2 – UK

Our training is a comprehensive three-day programme held at The Building Performance Hub in High Wycombe. This CITB Assured course is tailored for professionals aiming to gain the skills and certification needed to assess air permeability in larger complex buildings. Designed for experience Level 1 testers, the programme aligns with the ATTMA Technical Standard 2 (TSL2) and support progression toward Level 2 certification.

It excludes large scale structures over 80,000m2 buildings above 15 storeys and phased or zonal handovers.

Additional Information

Air Tightness Level 2 Training Course Overview

Participants will engage in detailed sessions covering:

  • ATTMA Scheme Overview
Understanding the framework, certification process, and quality standards essential for accurate air permeability testing.
  • Air Leakage Fundamentals
Exploring causes and consequences of air leakage, and its impact on building performance and energy efficiency.
  • Testing Equipment
Introduction to tools used in blower door testing, including multi-fan setups and pressure gauges, with guidance on correct operation.
  • Multi-Fan Setup Procedures
Step-by-step instructions for configuring equipment for multi-fan tests, including preparation, execution, and data collection.
  • Testing Standards and Protocols
Review of relevant standards governing air permeability assessments, ensuring compliance and consistency.
  • Building Regulations
Examination of UK regulations related to air tightness (such as The NOS) and energy performance, and their implications for testing.
  • Contracting and QA
Best practices for managing client expectations, documenting results, and maintaining quality assurance throughout the testing process.

Practical exercises include multi-fan tests, compartmentalised building assessments, and two-zone testing on non-domestic buildings, alongside theory and contracting exercises.

Day 3 – Examinations

The final day focuses on evaluating participants’ competence through:

  • Practical Assessment
Conducting a full air tightness test on a dwelling, demonstrating correct equipment setup, execution, and result interpretation.
  • Theory Examination
A multiple-choice test covering all theoretical aspects, including standards, equipment, and principles of air permeability and blower door testing.

Additional Requirements

To operate at the ATTMA Level 2 qualification, companies must have at least one team member with the EA qualification. This demonstrates advanced knowledge of envelope area calculations. The EA can be obtained via the Advanced 3D Modelling course or through the APEL route by submitting evidence of prior experience.
