Beginner Envelope Area Training – ATTMA Recognised

Our Beginner Envelope Area Training Course equips participants with the confidence to use SketchUp for accurately modelling buildings and calculating envelope areas and volumes. By transitioning from manual methods to a software-based approach, delegates will improve both the precision and efficiency of their air tightness testing processes. The course also provides practical, hands-on skills that align with ATTMA standards and current industry best practices, ensuring participants are well-prepared to apply their knowledge in real-world scenarios.

Prerequisites

Delegates should:

  • Be familiar with the principles of calculating envelope areas and volumes.
  • Have installed SketchUp and explored its basic tools is recommended but not mandatory. Delegates will be required to install Sketchup onto their laptops before the course however.

By the end of the training, participants will be confident in using SketchUp to model buildings for accurate envelope area and volume calculations. They will enhance the precision and efficiency of their air tightness testing workflows and gain practical skills aligned with ATTMA standards and industry best practices.

Additional Information

Who Should Attend

This course is ideal for professionals involved in air tightness testing who have a basic understanding of envelope area and volume calculations. It’s particularly suited to those looking to transition from manual techniques to software-based modelling.

What You’ll Learn

Participants will gain practical skills in using SketchUp to model buildings for the purpose of calculating envelope areas and volumes. Key learning outcomes include:

  • Template Setup for Air Tightness Testing: Learn to configure SketchUp templates with appropriate units, layers, and settings tailored to air tightness workflows.
  • Importing and Scaling Drawings: Understand how to bring architectural drawings into SketchUp and scale them accurately for modelling.
  • 3D Modelling for Envelope Calculations: Develop step-by-step modelling skills to create accurate representations of buildings and extract envelope data.

Practical Exercises

Hands-on exercises are central to the training, helping delegates apply their learning in realistic scenarios:

  • Basic Building Model: Practice using core SketchUp tools to create a simple structure.
  • Bay Window Integration: Learn to model protruding elements and architectural features.
  • Advanced Building Model: Tackle a complex structure with varying storey footprints, an integral garage, and a pitched roof with a dormer window.

Equipment Required

To participate effectively, delegates must bring:

  • A laptop capable of running SketchUp smoothly.
  • A mouse with a scroll wheel for precise navigation.
  • A scientific calculator or smartphone for on-the-spot calculations.
