HETAS Sweeping Module

The Sweeping Module provides a structured and practical route for operatives who already carry out sweeping activities and want to demonstrate their suitability for the HETAS Sweep & Service Scheme. Delivered at The Building Performance Hub, the course blends technical understanding with hands‑on assessment to ensure learners can competently sweep, assess and re‑commission solid fuel appliances in line with industry expectations.

Designed with safety, consistency and best practice in mind, the module enables operatives to refine their methods while gaining a recognised HETAS Statement of Results. The training is suitable for anyone progressing through the HETAS pathway or those seeking to add sweeping competencies to their existing registration.

Additional Information

Course Overview

This one‑day programme introduces the essential knowledge required for safe sweeping operations, with an emphasis on practical demonstration and correct assessment procedures. Learners will develop an understanding of health and safety requirements, environmental considerations and the factors that influence a successful sweep. The course also explores pre‑assessment surveys, appliance suitability, and the correct classification and handling of soot.

Through guided instruction, attendees review sealing methods, sweeping techniques across different appliance types and the steps involved in re‑commissioning appliances once cleaning and checks are complete. Consumer care, post‑service advice and best practice communication are also covered to build confidence in delivering a professional service.

The module includes training on the HETAS Unsafe Situations Procedure (HUSP), ensuring operatives understand how to identify, document and manage situations where an appliance or installation presents safety concerns.
