Description

Low Energy Building for Air Tightness Testers

This 1-day course is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform air tightness tests on low energy buildings, including Passivhaus and EnerPHit structures. Previously known as the Passivhaus Course, this training provides a comprehensive understanding of air tightness testing standards and procedures specific to energy-efficient buildings.

Prior Knowledge

To maximize the benefits of this course, it is recommended that delegates have experience as an air tightness tester or be very familiar with air tightness testing procedures.

Course Content

The course combines both presentations and hands-on demonstrations to ensure participants gain practical and theoretical knowledge. The content is structured to cover a wide range of relevant topics, providing a holistic view of air tightness testing for low energy buildings.

Presentations

The presentation segment covers the following key topics:

  1. Types of Low Energy Buildings:
    • Understanding different low energy building standards, including Passivhaus and EnerPHit. This section provides an overview of what defines a low energy building and the specific criteria they must meet.
  2. Test Standards:
    • Detailed explanation of the various test standards applicable to low energy buildings. Participants will learn about the specific requirements and guidelines that must be followed to ensure compliance with these standards.
  3. Equipment Setup:
    • Instructions on setting up the necessary equipment for air tightness testing. This includes an overview of the tools and devices used, as well as best practices for their setup and calibration.
  4. Test Procedure:
    • Step-by-step guidance on conducting air tightness tests. This section covers the entire testing process, from initial setup to the final assessment, ensuring that participants understand each stage of the procedure.
  5. Building Preparation:
    • Techniques for preparing buildings for air tightness testing. Participants will learn how to identify and seal potential leakage points and ensure that the building is ready for accurate testing.
  6. Testing Multi-Unit Buildings:
    • Special considerations and methods for testing multi-unit buildings. This segment addresses the unique challenges posed by larger structures and provides strategies for effective testing.
  7. Building Volume for Low Energy Buildings:
    • Calculation methods for determining the building volume, which is a crucial factor in air tightness testing. Participants will learn how to accurately measure and calculate the volume of low energy buildings.

Demonstration

The hands-on demonstration includes:

  • Calculation of the Volume for a Low Energy Building:
    • Practical demonstration of how to calculate the volume of a low energy building. This exercise helps participants apply theoretical knowledge in a real-world context, reinforcing their understanding of the process

A minimum of 4 participants may be required to run this course. In case the minimum number is not met, we reserve the right to postpone the course to a later date.

By the end of the course, participants will have a thorough understanding of air tightness testing for low energy buildings. They will be equipped with the skills to conduct tests in accordance with the relevant standards and procedures, ensuring that buildings meet the stringent requirements for energy efficiency.
