Throughout the course, delegates will engage in various activities designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of sound insulation testing. By the end of the course, participants will have developed the ability to combine, average, and subtract decibel values effectively. They will also learn to set up and calibrate sound sources and measuring equipment, ensuring that all devices are functioning correctly through simple routine checks. This foundational knowledge is crucial for conducting accurate and reliable sound tests.
Delegates will also be trained to select appropriate measurement numbers, locations, and durations to ensure comprehensive testing coverage. The ability to measure octave and 1/3 octave band sound pressure levels is a key focus, along with the skills to calculate dBA and dBZ levels from these measurements. These skills are essential for performing airborne and impact sound insulation tests in line with BS EN ISO 140 parts 4 and 7.
An important part of the training includes understanding the differences between ISO 140 and other relevant guidelines, such as Approved Document E and Part B. This knowledge ensures that delegates can navigate and apply various standards and regulations accurately.
The course covers several modules to provide a well-rounded education in sound insulation testing. These modules include:
- Basic Concepts
- Room Acoustic Concepts
- Sound Transmission Concepts
- Standardised Measurement Methodology
- Practical Aspects
- Report Writing
In addition to the core training modules, the course also covers the use of the SITMA Lodgement system. This system is essential for managing and submitting test results and reports, ensuring that delegates are well-versed in the administrative aspects of sound insulation testing.
By the end of the course, delegates will be proficient in conducting sound insulation tests, interpreting results, and compiling comprehensive reports. They will understand the intricacies of different measurement methods and the practicalities of setting up and executing tests in various environments. The examination on the third day will test their theoretical knowledge and practical skills, ensuring they are fully prepared to apply their training in real-world scenarios.
