Why Choose This Domestic Ventilation Commissioning Training?

This course is delivered by experienced industry professionals at The Building Performance Hub, a purpose-built facility designed specifically for hands-on ventilation training. It offers in-depth coverage of both MVHR and MEV systems, ensuring participants gain a solid understanding of the principles and practicalities of domestic ventilation. Through real-world commissioning exercises using high-quality equipment, learners are able to apply their knowledge in a controlled, supportive environment. The course also serves as a strong foundation for those looking to progress toward further certification and professional development in the field.

In addition to technical skills, the course helps participants build confidence in identifying non-compliances, interpreting regulations, and applying best practices in real-world scenarios. The structured blend of theory and practice ensures that learners not only understand how systems work but also how to assess and commission them to meet current standards. Whether you’re new to ventilation or looking to formalise your experience, this course provides the tools and insight needed to advance your career in building performance and compliance.

Note: This course does not include details on how to design or install ventilation systems

Who Should Attend to Domestic Ventilation Commissioning Training

No prior knowledge is strictly required to attend the Domestic Ventilation Commissioning training course. However, experience in ventilation, building servicers and the wider construction industry is beneficial and will help participants grasp the concepts more quickly and effectively.

Course Overview of the Domestic Ventilation Commissioning Training

The course combines theoretical instruction with practical exercises to ensure a comprehensive understanding of domestic ventilation systems. The course features elements from BSRIA’s BG 46/2022. Day one focuses on learning and application, while day two is dedicated to assessment

Day 1: Learning and Practical Application

Participants will take part in presentations and hands-on exercises covering:

  • Ventilation Theory: Understanding the principles of ventilation, its role in indoor air quality, and its impact on energy efficiency.
  • Installation Best Practices: Guidance on correct installation methods, common errors, and how to avoid them.
  • System Types Overview: Introduction to MVHR, MEV, and Natural Ventilation systems, including their benefits, limitations, and appropriate use cases.
  • Commissioning Procedures:
    • Intermittent Extract Ventilation (theory)
    • Mechanical Extract Ventilation (MEV) – theory and practical
    • Heat Recovery Ventilation (MVHR) – theory and practical
  • System Inspection: Techniques for inspecting installed systems and identifying non-compliance or performance issues.

Day 2: Assessment and Certification Preparation

Participants will complete both theory and practical assessments. Tasks include balancing either a System 3 or System 4 ventilation setup and identifying any faults or non-compliances. These assessments are designed to validate the participant’s ability to apply course knowledge in real-world scenarios.

Delegates will receive a course completion certificate after completing the course. Delegates are then able to apply for the Domestic Ventilation Commissioning Scheme that is run by ATTMA. Full details on this scheme can be found here
