Description

2-Day Ventilation Assessment and Commissioning Training Course

This intensive 2-day course is designed to equip participants with the knowledge, understanding, and practical experience necessary to assess and commission installed domestic ventilation systems. Utilizing the state-of-the-art, custom-designed ventilation facilities at The Building Performance Hub, the course covers systems such as Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR), Mechanical Extract Ventilation (MEV), and Natural Ventilation using intermittent extractors.

Prior Knowledge:

No prior knowledge is strictly required to attend this course. However, experience in ventilation and the construction industry is beneficial and will help participants grasp the concepts more quickly and effectively.

Course Content:

The course content is a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical exercises, designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of domestic ventilation systems. The first day focuses on presentations and practical exercises, while the second day is dedicated to examinations.

Day 1: Presentations and Exercises

On the first day, participants will engage in a series of presentations and practical exercises that cover the following topics:

  1. Theory of Ventilation: This session provides a detailed overview of ventilation principles, including the importance of ventilation for indoor air quality and energy efficiency. Participants will learn about different ventilation strategies and how they impact building performance.
  2. Best Practice Installation: This presentation outlines the best practices for installing various types of ventilation systems. Participants will gain insights into common installation mistakes and how to avoid them, ensuring systems are installed correctly and efficiently.
  3. The Ventilation System Types: An introduction to different types of ventilation systems, including Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR), Mechanical Extract Ventilation (MEV), and Natural Ventilation with intermittent extractors. This session will cover the advantages and disadvantages of each system and their appropriate applications.
  4. Commissioning of Intermittent Extract Ventilation: A theoretical overview of commissioning intermittent extract ventilation systems. Participants will learn the necessary steps to ensure these systems are functioning correctly and meeting performance standards.
  5. Commissioning of Mechanical Extract Ventilation (Theory): This session covers the theoretical aspects of commissioning Mechanical Extract Ventilation (MEV) systems. Participants will understand the key components, system checks, and adjustments required for optimal performance.
  6. Commissioning of Mechanical Extract Ventilation (Practice): A hands-on exercise where participants will practice commissioning MEV systems using the facilities at The Building Performance Hub. This practical experience reinforces the theoretical knowledge gained in the previous session.
  7. Commissioning of Heat Recovery Ventilation (Theory): The theoretical aspects of commissioning Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) systems. Participants will learn about the components, system setup, and performance checks specific to MVHR.
  8. Commissioning of Heat Recovery Ventilation (Practice): A practical exercise where participants will commission MVHR systems. This session provides hands-on experience and helps participants apply their theoretical knowledge in a real-world setting.
  9. Inspection of Ventilation Types: Participants will learn how to inspect different types of ventilation systems to identify any issues or non-compliances. This session covers the key aspects to look for during an inspection and how to address any problems found.

Day 2: Examinations

The second day is dedicated to theory assessments and practical assessments. Participants will be required to balance either a system 3 or system 4 ventilation type and identify any non-compliances. The examinations are designed to test the participants’ understanding of the course material and their ability to apply it in practical situations.

Important Note:

Completion of this course does not guarantee automatic entry to the ATTMA Certification Scheme, nor does it qualify participants to conduct testing without third-party certification. However, it provides a solid foundation of knowledge and practical experience that can be built upon through further training and certification processes.

In summary, this 2-day course offers a thorough introduction to domestic ventilation systems, combining theoretical knowledge with practical experience. Participants will leave with a solid understanding of how to assess and commission ventilation systems, preparing them for further certification and professional application.
