The IOA is the UK’s professional body for those who work in acoustics, noise and vibration. It was founded in 1974 from the amalgamation of the Acoustics Group of the Institute of Physics and the British Acoustical Society. The institute has over 3000 members, ranging from engineers to scientists, educators and lawyers to architects and environmental health officers.
The interests of members within the acoustics industry is wide, embracing such as aerodynamics, architectural acoustics, building acoustics, noise and vibration, engineering dynamics, underwater acoustics, along with a variety of environment aspects.
The Institute also works closely with other professional bodies in related fields such as the CIEH, REHIS, and IOSH and the Association of Noise Consultants
