SITMA Featured in Acoustics Bulletin

SITMA featured in the May-June 2024 edition of Acoustics Bulletin covers SITMA’s recent UKAS accreditation under BS EN ISO/IEC 17024:2012. This accreditation certifies that SITMA testers are competent to conduct sound insulation tests according to specific building regulations in the UK.

Key highlights include:

Accreditation Details
SITMA has achieved accreditation which allows certifying testers for compliance with BS EN ISO 140-4:1998 and BS EN ISO 140-7:1998 for pre-completion testing across the UK.

Testing and Certification Process
Testers must demonstrate 8 separate calibration and checking of their equipment, including sound level meters and tapping machines. Those who wish to join SITMA must pass a 56-question theory exam with a pass rate of 35% for those who opt out of additional training. This increases to 75% when additional training is undertaken. After applicants have passed and applied, an on-site witness audit is conducted before certification is granted.

Lodgement Portal
This innovative portal is key for maintaining quality and compliance. It requires testers to input their location before tests, allows SITMA to recalibrate raw data from tests, and assists in creating test reports quickly and accurately.

To say SITMA is an easy option is just not true. With the equipment requirements, theory and practical examinations it’s proved the undoing of some very high-level consultants

System Efficiency and Integrity
The system SITMA has developed aims to be efficient and reliable, challenging the notion that it provides an ‘easy’ certification route. The setup includes several safeguards and efficiency measures to ensure high standards of testing and reporting.

Barry Cope, Group Managing Director of the BCTA Group which includes SITMA, emphasized the rigor and high standards of their certification process, debunking the notion that it is an easy route to compliance. “To say SITMA is an easy option is just not true. With the equipment requirements, theory and practical examinations it’s proved the undoing of some very high-level consultants. We’re really very proud of what we have achieved and have quietly, over the past five years, been improving and building on what we do to make the system as efficient, as smart and as accurate as we can make it”.
