ATTMA was delighted to be given the opportunity to feed its experience of running one of the worlds largest Competent Persons Schemes back to Local Government in Australia and New Zealand last week.
During a whistle-stop tour of Australia and New Zealand, ATTMA Scheme Manager Barry Cope met with the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) in Wellington, New Zealand and discussed the role of ATTMA, Lodgement and the potential of air tightness testing in New Zealand.
Mr Cope comments: “New Zealand already has a brilliant renewable energy strategy that sees a significant amount of energy come from completely renewable and sustainable sources so the argument about saving energy is different from the challenges we face in the UK. It is widely agreed however that the ventilation in the New Zealand housing stock is not matched to the air tightness which is a considerable factor in mould issues. Air tightness testing can be used as a powerful tool to identify buildings that are air tight and under ventilated and therefore it can be used to both identify under ventilated existing buildings and as a preventative action for new buildings”.
ATTMA also met with a number of other organisations whilst in New Zealand, including the Building Research Association of New Zealand (BRANZ), the Building Officials Institute of New Zealand (BOINZ) and the Building Enclosure Council of New Zealand.
