Who is ATTMA?

Established in 2002, the Air Tightness Testing & Measurement Association Competent Persons Scheme (ATTMA CPS) is a non-profit entity that offers a recognised and valued avenue for Air Tightness Testers and Testing Organisations to demonstrate their professional competence. It provides the construction sector with standardised certified reports, ensuring ongoing compliance with Local Governments, Building Regulations, and relevant Testing Standards.

From its inception to its current form, ATTMA has consistently strived to foster the technical excellence of its members. This is achieved through a meticulous certification process and maintained via annual audits, specialised Air Tightness Training, Air Tightness CPDs, and dedicated technical & non-technical support. Members also have access to ATTMA’s unique Lodgement Portal, a highly specialised tool.

The ATTMA Competent Persons Scheme has received approval from the governments of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. Over 470 industry testers have chosen to operate within this scheme. ATTMA takes pride in its international popularity, with members operating in countries such as Poland, Latvia, Australia, New Zealand, UAE, Qatar, and Malaysia.

The scheme is led by BCTA Group Managing Director Barry Cope, a seasoned industry expert who also heads the successful Sound Insulation Testing & Measurement Association (SITMA). He is joined by ATTMA’s dedicated Technical Manager Paul Carling, who serves as the main point of contact for testers. With nearly two decades of industry experience, including technical management and auditing, Paul provides support to members and ensures industry standards are upheld.

To complement the human expertise, ATTMA has developed its own world-class Lodgement Portal. This tool, designed by Air Testers for Air Testers, allows for efficient lodging of each Air Tightness Test and the creation of required certified reports for clients and relevant building control bodies. The Lodgement Portal can also flag test reports that do not meet the criteria defined within the Building Regulations.

If you’re interested in joining the ATTMA Scheme, comprehensive certification information is available. Additional details regarding entry into the scheme, scheme fees, members’ code of conduct, and more can be found on the website.
