Equipment and Calibration

Equipment

There are two types of equipment that can be used in the ATTMA Domestic Ventilation Commissioning Certification Scheme (ADVCCS). These are shown below. No other kit or method is acceptable to be used.

AirFlow Diff
Powered Flow Hoods
Ventilation Device
Vane Anemometers
Scheme Level Test Type Equipment
Part 1 (Intermittent & Decentralised Fans)
Commissioning of intermittent & decentralised domestic ventilation
Vane Anemometer or Powered Flow Hood
Part 2 (Continuously Running Fans)
Commissioning and balancing of continuously running, centralised domestic ventilation
Powered Flow Hood only.

Calibration

Calibration must be undertaken by a UKAS/ILAC accredited calibration laboratory, accredited for the specific class of calibration required.

Trace, manufacturers, or verified calibration is not acceptable.

The complete instrumentation assembly, such as an anemometer and any additional hoods must be calibrated together as a working measurement system. Each item must be separately identified on the calibration certificate.

All equipment shall be labelled to be both identified and traced back to the calibration certificate.

Calibrations to ‘velocity’ are not permitted.

Where the airflow measurement instrument utilises a correction factor (K Factor) for its hoods, the correction factor must be uploaded as part of the upload calibration section in the ATTMA Portal to enable appropriate calculation and corrections.

Calibration Frequency

All equipment used is required to be annually calibrated.

Calibration Specifications

All the following specifications are required of all equipment used, which must all be undertaken by a UKAS/ILAC accredited calibration laboratory, accredited for the specific class of calibration required.

The equipment must be calibrated over the range it is to be used, typically 4 to 60 l/s (14 m3/h to 216 m3/h). Measurements outside of this range are not compliant.

Item Description Calibration Requirements
Powered Flow Hood
Precision
The accuracy of the Airflow Measurement Instrument must have an accuracy measurement of ±5%
Dedicated UKAS/ILAC accredited facility, calibrated every 12 months as a single ‘system’.
Hood Attachment
Must have a proprietary hood attachment
Data
Must record data in m3/h or l/s
Vane Anemometer

Competence with Equipment

Testers are expected to be familiar with and competent in the operation of all testing equipment they use for measurements in accordance with industry Standards called for in Building Regulations, Approved Documents, whether owned, borrowed or hired.

Hired/Borrowed Equipment

Record Keeping

A record shall be kept of all equipment used for testing and pre-completion testing including that which is not owned by the tester. Equipment shall be uploaded to the ATTMA Portal.

Using equipment that is not registered on the ATTMA Portal will result in instant suspension from the AVCC Scheme.

Details of equipment used but not owned by the tester should be included in the information submitted for the next audit.

Testers should have procedures in place to ensure that borrowed or hired equipment is (a) in calibration, and (b) performing correctly.

Calibration certificates for the borrowed or hired equipment must be presented at the next audit.
