ATTMA responds to the Introduction of Inspection of Stand-alone Ventilation Study

The Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) have conducted a feasibility study on the possible introduction of inspection of stand-alone ventilation systems.

The aim of the survey was to

  • Understand the perception of drivers of and barriers to the improvement of the overall performance of stand-alone ventilation systems.
  • Collect information on initiatives and schemes to promote and improve the overall performance of stand-alone ventilation systems, including thorough inspection

ATTMA have responded to this invitation-only study and support the mandatory inspection for stand-alone ventilation systems.

Stand-alone ventilation systems are defined as ventilation systems whose sole function is to ventilate a building.

The EPBD, amending Directive (EU) 2018/844 which entered into force in July 2018 introduced some new provisions. Article 19a introduces the requirement to perform a feasibility study addressing the possible introduction of inspections of stand-alone ventilation system

The study that concerns the inspection of stand-alone ventilation systems includes an overview of the stock of ventilation systems installed in Europe and relation technological trends and a review of mandatory and voluntary inspection schemes of ventilation systems in buildings at EU and national levels. Because of this, the study will assess the relevance, feasibility, timing and overall impacts of introduction EU Provisions.  Provisions could be to include the development or improvement of technical standards, the establishment of guidelines and practices or the introduction of regular inspection requirements of stand-alone systems.
