Completed Homes Hits New Heights

Despite the global pandemic, figures from the MHCLG have revealed that the number of completed homes hit almost 50,000 in first quarter of 2021.

This is the highest figure in over 20 years and hasn’t been dampened by the coronavirus pandemic where a range of measures have been put in place by the government to support the industry

In the first quarter there were 49,470 completed homes, which is a 4% increase compared to the last three months of 2020. During the same period, 46,010 were started, which is the highest number in almost 15 years, and a 7% increase on the previous quarter.

There has also been an 18% increase in housebuilding starts in London, with 14,530 in the first quarter compared to the previous 12 months.

The figures have also highlighted that in the year 2020-2021, 81% of new build dwellings were houses, which is the highest proportion since 2000-2001.

It is encouraging to see a continued rise in the number of new homes being built. The house building sector has shown extraordinary resilience and the government has continued to demonstrate it’s support for the industry throughout the pandemic.

By enabling construction sites to remain open and operate safely, builders have been able to deliver the homes this country needs as we build back better from the pandemic.

ATTMA has also seen this in recent lodgement figures as there have now been over 88,000 lodgement in the first six months of 2021.
