Women In Construction

This shouldn’t be an article, but it is. Women make up just over half the UK population however when it comes to the construction industry, women are only one-fifth of the workforce. Following on from Women in Construction week last month , ATTMA were pleased to sit down with Stewart Boyce (Associate Director) and Anna Farmer (Operations Director) from DALTEC, who are one of the very few companies in the UK to proactively try and recruit female air tightness testers.

“DALTEC are proud to employ a number of female air leakage testing engineers. We recognise that this has historically tended to be a male dominated career but we’re working hard to change this perception and encourage women to apply for engineer roles “

“We’ve reviewed our job adverts to make sure they’re appealing to both men and women as well as reviewing our working practices to make them more flexible.  We are committed to continuing to grow the diversity of our team as we continue our company growth.”

ATTMA delved into our database and found that 7.3% of our testers are female which is below the UK construction average of just under 11%. We look forward to welcoming everyone to The Building Performance Hub to learn and improve on their skills in air tightness, sound insulation and the wider construction industry

Barry Cope, Group Managing Director of the BCTA Group added: “Women in construction has long been an issue that has plagued the male dominated construction sector but it’s great to see that statistic changing for the better. ATTMA has always promoted women in construction and it’s great to see more women attend ATTMA training courses at The Building Performance Hub in 2021 than any other year combined”.

Here at ATTMA, we look forward to welcoming everyone to The Building Performance Hub to learn and improve on their skills in air tightness, sound insulation and the wider construction industry.
